What’s missing?

• Setup fees: many web hosts charge you a setup fee if you want to pay monthly. You can compare setup fees using our comparison table;
• Trial costs: some web host offer a discount for the first month of activity e.g. A2 Hosting charges $4.90 for the first month and $9.99 for each subsequent month.

Many web hosts advertise monthly prices but don’t actually allow you to pay monthly. For example, GoDaddy advertises its “Economy” package at $2.99 per month however to qualify for that rate you have to pay 36 months in advance.

The problem with paying monthly is it often means paying significantly more (at least in the first year).

For example, GreenGeeks charges $9.95 per month for its “EcoStarter” package however you can purchase a 12 month subscription for the same package for $59.40 (this price increases significantly in year two).

If you pay monthly, GreenGeeks will also charge you a $15 setup fee.
